As part of NTU WSC OVE’s monthly LCIP volunteering, we spent the weekend getting our hands dirty (literally) at a rooftop garden — and honestly, it was such a wholesome and refreshing experience. Besides feeding the super cute resident chickens (they were definitely the highlight for many of us), we got involved in a whole range of gardening tasks that gave us a new appreciation for urban farming. We pruned overgrown plants, cleared out stubborn weeds, loosened and refreshed the soil, and gave the crops some much-needed tender loving care so they could keep growing strong.

We also helped with small construction and maintenance work around the garden — fixing certain sections, tidying up the pathways, and improving parts of the structure so the space can function better for future volunteers and residents. It was really satisfying to see the garden slowly transform as everyone contributed, and it reminded us how much consistent effort goes into keeping a green space healthy, especially in the middle of the city.
Overall, it was a meaningful day filled with teamwork, learning, and laughter. Experiences like this make us appreciate the community around us even more, and they’re a reminder that giving back doesn’t always require something big — sometimes it’s just about showing up, working together, and helping things grow, one small step at a time.
