After a month break during the summer break, on 17th June 2023, the OVE team has once again returned to Bright Hill Evergreen Home to interact with the seniors and prepared a couple of activities for the seniors there for entertainment.
The OVE team has prepared some DIY sessions for hands-on activity with the elderly. For the first activity, the team started with the Upcycled Animal Toilet Roll Holder, which the volunteers guided the elderly to create a cute bee using an empty toilet roll, followed by Paper Plate Tambourine. Although some steps might be hard for the elderly, the volunteers assisted them with the making and all of them were able to produce the product.
After the DIY session, the OVE team organised a Karaoke session with many amazing Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien songs, not only the volunteers sang for the seniors, but the seniors were given the opportunity to show off their amazing voices.

"Even though the OVE team faced some challenges initially, all the members quickly adapted to singing Karaoke and hyping the seniors up before the activities started. It was heartwarming to see everyone doing their best to engage the seniors!"

"Volunteering at Bright Hill was a memorable experience that enhanced my connection to the local community. I was honored and grateful for the warm welcome offered by the staff and the elderly. The highlight of the visit for me was their enthusiasm when singing karaoke, as it shows that happiness can come from the simplest things in life."

"Initially it was slightly difficult to interact with the elderly since we started off with Karaoke hence we couldn’t really interact with them much. However once we started with the arts and craft things took a huge turn and it was really heartwarming to see the elderly putting in the effort to make their toys and that was also the moment where they started to open up to us. It was really touching as towards the end the they were thanking us and you could see that we had a bought a smile to their face."

Despite the difficulties in engaging the seniors to participate in the activities and having language barriers, the volunteers still managed to interact with the seniors and deliver the joy to them, and the seniors seemed to enjoy themselves.
