Food For Hope is an annual event organised by Internal Relation (IR), a supporting committee of Nanyang Technological University’s Welfare Services Club.
On its 3rd year of running, Food For Hope 2016 involved a total of 3 stages, with each stage taking up 1 Sunday in the month of February. These 3 stages are in the order of flyers distribution, food collection and food distribution. Food for Hope 2016 is a joint event which took place in collaboration with the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) of Boon Lay Community Center and its involvement expanded to the Frontier Community Center this year. This project has managed to outreach to the beneficiaries of Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society and Whispering Heart.
In addition to the event this year, volunteers recruitment expanded outside of the WSC community and involved NTU staffs and students.
On one of the Sundays where food collection took place, a generous quantity of canned foods was collected from the residents staying in Jurong.

This event has been such a meaningful one as not only did we help the beneficiaries to raise food, the experiences that this event has given us have been eye-opening.
We receive much more when we give.
Some of our take away point
While distributing the food rations to the residents, there was one particular resident who thanked us individually as she gratefully received her ration. We often take things for granted and think that there will always be food on the table. In fact, we even complain about the taste of the food when it is not to our liking. This event has taught me how to be more appreciative of my parents who work tirelessly just so they can put food on the table.

There were many heart-warming moments experienced during food collection. Despite many families saying that they were unprepared for the donation, they still took the effort to gather what they have off of their shelves for donation. It is nice to see that I have managed to put a smile on their faces and I can feel the love in the air.
